Introduction

The subject of the novel is loyalty and betrayal. It is a story of two friends who live in Kabul, Afghanistan. Amir is a young boy and his closest friend is Hassan, who is a son of his father’s servant. They played kite fighting together. Amir flew kites and Hassan was a “kite runner”, he would fetch the kite for Amir where ever it landed. Assef a boy with a taste for violence mocked Amir for being friends with Hassan, who belonged to a low race. He plans to attack Amir, but Hassan stands in defense for Amir.

Amir wins a local kite fight and as usual, Hassan runs for the last cut kite. Mid of his way Aseef catches him alone, beats him severely and rapes him. Amir encounters the scene but doesn’t inform anyone. Instead he plots, a scene, where he plants a watch and some money under the pillow of Hassan’s father so that his father asks them to leave because Amir’s guilty conscious did let him be at peace. When they are confronted Hassan falsely confesses and are forgiven. Later on, they leave in search of another place. After 2 decades pass away Amir comes to know that Hassan is dead and his son Sohrab needs to be rescued from the orphanage. "There is a way to be good again."
